Cancer Research UK provides the Dundee Cancer Centre with £50,000 annually for a development fund to support pump-priming translational, collaborative cancer research. The Dundee Cancer Centre is also pleased to administer annually the selection process of a recipient for the Ann and Normile Baxter Prize for Cancer Research.
There are many other funding opportunities available from CR-UK and other funding bodies. Major opportunities are highlighted below; however please visit relevant websites for full information.
Population Research Committee (PRC) Project Grant
This programme provides support for a defined piece of work with objectives that can be achieved in the time specified. Applications are judged on the basis of scientific excellence, innovation, relevance to cancer research and potential impact on policy and practice.
Eligible Topics:
Deadline: 22 June 2012
This scheme is for post-doctoral researchers funded by Cancer Research UK. It will allow researchers to visit research groups elsewhere in the UK or overseas to carry out a specific piece of research. The aim of these awards is to give Cancer Research UK-funded post-doctoral researchers a chance to develop their research skills and begin to establish an independent research career.
Deadline: 27 July 2012 for funding from November 2012 and 7 December 2012 for funding from April 2013.

Cancer Target Discovery and Development (CTDD) Network (U01) The purpose of the Cancer Target Discovery and Development (CTDD) initiative is to promote innovative research on high throughput approaches to the discovery and characterization of new cancer targets and their modulators. Projects resulting from this FOA are expected to bridge the gap between the enormous volumes of data generated by the comprehensive molecular characterizations of many cancer subtypes and the ability to use these data for the development of human cancer therapeutics and associated response markers. Grant applications from investigators interested in conducting basic research studies into the biological causes and mechanisms of cancer health disparities are invited. Translational Research at the Aging/Cancer Interface (TRACI) This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages translational research proposals in the overlapping areas of human aging and cancer, linking basic and clinical research relevant to the care of older cancer patients through both bench-to-bedside and bedside-to-bench approaches. Ultimately, information from the research supported by this initiative should improve the health and well-being of elderly patients at risk for, or diagnosed with, cancer and decrease the functional impairment and morbidity associated with cancer in this population. Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant Award Role of the Microflora in the Etiology of Gastro-Intestinal Cancer (R01) This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), encourages innovative multidisciplinary research projects that will advance our mechanistic understanding of microflora influences on Gastro-Intestinal (GI) carcinogenesis. Mechanisms of Alcohol-associated Cancers (R01) and (R21) This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications from researchers with broad ranges of expertise to study the mechanisms by which alcohol increases cancer risk Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant Award

Research projects and programmes Project Grants are awarded for up to three years usually for the support of one technician, research assistant or post doctoral scientist to carry out a clearly defined project. Specialist Programmes are awarded for up to five years to support a team of researchers to tackle more extensive, long-term goals. Applicants for all of specialist programmes must contact the Scientific Director before applying.
Various award schemes are offered. Please follow the link below for further details:
